Daily Stoic 07.11 | The Start-Up of You
Epictetus, Discourses, 3.5.141
The main focus of most peoples energy nowadays goes into starting businesses, becoming financially wealthy, climbing the ladder at work, and feeding into a culture of hustle. Investing yourself into building success is no small feat, and can be very rewarding when done right. However, what we should put above all else is investing in the building and bettering of ourselves--the building of our character. Think of yourself as a start-up company. Start with the idea of your ideal self, and then work on developing toward that ideal, every day.
“But what does Socrates say? ‘Just as one person delights in improving his farm, and another his horse, so I delight in attending to my own improvement day by day.’”↩
